You may have seen that parkrun reopened the large majority of their events in England on Saturday 24th July, under their Covid-19 Framework.
Like all of you, we have really missed our 5k Your Way group meet-ups each month. As it stands we would like to relaunch 5k Your Way groups on the last Saturday of August (28th August) in England. However, there will also be a soft launch of groups on Saturday 31st July, please check the locations section on the website HERE for an up to date list of groups taking part in the soft launch. Just click on the dropdown tabs to find the group you’re looking for (organised by regions).
Please be aware that not all groups will be starting on this date, so please check the website for more details. We will then begin to do a bigger promotional push for Saturday 28th August from HQ and we'd be very happy to help groups with this locally too.
For the latest news on Covid-19 restrictions in Northern Ireland see HERE. Great news that parkrun restarted in Northern Ireland on Saturday 26th June!
We currently do not have any 5k Your Way groups in Scotland but hopefully we will in the not-too-distant future!
Like us, we expect many of you will have mixed emotions at the prospect of relaunching your 5k Your Way groups. Perhaps a mixture of excitement and nervousness coupled with concerns about when is the right time to do so. We have created this 5k Your Way Framework document to help guide the relaunch of our groups, along with FAQs. We hope that, together, they provide you with the reassurance that we are managing risks appropriately and providing the safest possible environment for everyone involved.
Upfront, we would like to reassure you that:
Our 5k Your Way Covid-19 Framework is not intended to create extra rules or red tape and we really hope it doesn’t come across as such. We want to support and protect you and definitely don’t want to create unnecessary barriers to participation. We know how much time and effort you, as ambassadors, dedicate to 5k Your Way, and are hugely grateful for this!
However, we know that everyone will have a different idea and a different opinion on how to relaunch groups and on what this 5k Your Way Covid-19 Framework should look like. We have done our best to take on board and address ambassadors’ comments, concerns and feedback from the responses in the ambassador feedback survey. We have also undertaken surveys of participants and Health Care Professionals to enable us to understand the overall feeling of groups relaunching for everyone involved and hopefully address questions and concerns.
We know that many members of our 5k Your Way community will be living with cancer, currently undergoing treatment or living beyond cancer and might be very concerned about attending a parkrun. We will never put any pressure on ambassadors to relaunch or attend a group, regardless of the situation with Covid-19. It may take longer for some of our groups to return than others and that is fine. We want groups to feel confident and happy about relaunching when they do so, and the timing will almost certainly vary across the country.
Our framework is subject to change as more guidance comes in from both the government and from parkrun HQ, and also as further evidence emerges in relation to COVID-19 and our understanding develops accordingly. We will continue to provide updates through our newsletters and social media.
As always, thank you so much for being part of 5k Your Way and for taking the time to read this document. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or feedback.
